Riverside city has recently been named among Relocate America's 12th annual Top 100 Places to Live list.
Out of 1800 nominations, Relocate America selects the best 100 cities. Only the top 10 cities are ranked individually.
Relocate America selects its candidates based on community nominations. Judgment is also based on neighborhood quality, beauty of the area, school performance, recreational activities, and economic growth.
Mayor Ronald Loveridge said that he was not surprised by Riverside's placement.
"I was very gratified to learn that Riverside was included as one of the best places to live, although I cannot say [I am] surprised," Loveridge said. "Riverside is an urban, diverse, and successful city. It's known for its arts, innovation, higher education, and green initiatives. This award is further evidence that we are heading in the right direction."
Loveridge said he credits the efforts made by Riverside community leaders.
"An excellent example of this is the nearly $1.7 billion Riverside Renaissance public investment program that seeks to complete more projects in five years than were completed in the previous 30," Loveridge said.
The Riverside Renaissance is an initiative to reduce traffic flow, replace aging infrastructures, expand and improve police, fire, library, parks, and other community facilities, according to the city's official website.
Third-year economics major and Riverside resident Dan Wu said he was impressed when he heard about the recent ranking.
"After living here for most of my life, I've seen [Riverside] grow from a small community based around the orange groves to the huge suburb that it is now," Wu said
