Starting at the end of May, the University Village (UV) theatre will be using RealD technology to provide a 3D experience for audiences. The introduction of this technology coincides with the release of Disney/Pixar's new film, Up.

According to a recent press release, this is the firs time that 3D technology will be utilized by the theater. The UltraStar University Village Cinemas, in partnership with RealD, has installed the state-of-the-art RealD XL Cinema System.

Responses from students are mostly positive.

"3D technology is the next logical step in the progression of media," said third-year business major Jameson Mitchell.

Some students also feel that this will provide students an incentive to stay around the campus instead of heading outside of Riverside for entertainment.

"It'll be a good attraction to the UCR campus and students will want to watch movies at the UV rather than elsewhere," said second-year biology major Ruby Kandah.

The University Village Cinemas are owned and operated by UltraStar Cinemas, which is based in San Diego and operates 13 theaters in Southern California and Arizona.
